Alkmaar Cheese Market

The Alkmaar cheese market is held every week on Friday in summer, and on the first Friday of the month during the rest of the year. It is a very picturesque market where they sell Dutch cheeses, which represents the old type of market where trade agreements are reached on the price of a kilo of cheese, and then they weigh the cheeses on a large scale. The cheeses are carried by two men in a kind of huge tray that is hung around their necks.

Alkmaar Cheese Fair. You must visit this traditional fair, where you can try many types of cheese from all over the country. Held every Friday morning from April to September, from 10 to 12, although the atmosphere lasts a lot longer. The huge Gouda cheeses are transported in a very curious way from the square to a large building (pictured) called the house of pesos. Do not miss it!
