A work by Czech sculptor Ivan Theimer
In the center of the Place de la Victoria de Bordeaux is an obelisk that's a work of modern art, it was placed in the square after extensive renovations. In June 2005 it was inaugurated by Czech sculptor Ivan Theimer. It's 16 meters high and has a pedestal on top without statue/decoration. It was made with 50 tons of red Languedos marble but only consists of 6 blocks of marble. At its base are two bronzes turtles, whose shells are decorated with grapes and names of the designation of origin wines of the Bordeaux region.
