Distinguished works of early modernism
The small town of Canet de Mar, on the northern boundary of the province of Barcelona, has many treasured and distinguished architectural works of modernism, executed by architects such as Puig i Cadafalch and Domenech i Montaner. To the latter, it owes the Athenaeum, which was one of the first commissions he received. The building has characteristics typical of early modernism, highlighted by the large rose window adorning its facade and the column holding the ledge on the corner, topped by a small dome. Also notable are the graffiti on the facade stucco and wrought-iron railings, a hallmark of Catalan Modernism.
