Berchtesgaden Salt Mines

4 reviews of Berchtesgaden Salt Mines

Fun excursion

I visited this place back in 99 ' when I went with my parents to Bavaria. The tour we took included visiting the Salzbergwerk salt mine in Berchtesgaden. This mine, which removes salt from the rocks, has been in operation since 1517. There are 5 levels of galleries which they operate, complete with freshwater necessary for extraction. Taking pictures is difficult because of the lighting, but on the tour , you'll have be given a robe to fit over your clothes so you can go inside and explore the tunnels. These mines produce the Bad Reichenhall brand of salt, and it's fun to see the process.

Fun activity

This fun activity begins when you hop on a train that gets you into the bowels of the mines. From here, there are many tunnels and you also have two slides that are super fun. Then you continue on the boat ride, don't miss it!
