Bonneville Salt Flats

The Bonneville Salt Flats is known for the world record land speed events held there. The feature is entirely natural and this is what makes it so fascinating. It is located along I-80 along the Nevada-Utah border. The flats look different in the summer and in winter. The best place to view it is at a rest stop along I-80 where there are restrooms and rest huts. From some views, the flat is surrounded by mountains. There is a foot washing area if you decide to take a stroll on the salt flats.

I've always loved the movie 'The World's Fastest Indian', added with being a kiwi and riding a motorcycle, and I had to check out the Salt Flats. They go on for as far as you can see. Unfortunately there was water on the flats when I went so I couldn't drive on them myself, but it created a beautiful mirror effect. I'm hoping to go back during speed week one year.
