This restaurant is located in the Ciutadella port in Menorca. It was recommended to us by natives as the best the island had to offer and the truth is we loved it.
The waiters very helpful and pleasant and the food ... how would one say: im-pressive. The fish is fresh because we witnessed how the fishermen brought it freshly caught and delivered it. We ordered an arroz caldoso (mix between a paella and soup) with monkfish and Norway lobster. € 30 per person more or less.
Very traditional, proprietor of exquisite marine cuisine and located in a superb corner of the port of Ciutadella, Café Balear is an institution in Menorca.
Created in the seventies, the Café was at first a tavern, where sailors gathered early before heading out to sea. Today it is a benchmark in fine dining: Every day they prepare delicacies from the daily catches of 'Rosa Santa', the restaurants own boat. Dishes such as arroz caldoso (mix between paella and soup) with langoustine, monkfish and shrimp stew, or Menorca fresh fish, unforgettable.
We’re from Galicia and it can sometimes be hard to find shellfish as good as we have it at home. We ordered prawns in Ciutadella and they were, in my opinion, perfect.
Afterwards, we ordered “arroz caldoso” with monkfish, jumbo prawns, and shrimp and it was very tasty. Generous portions too. We had a lemon sorbet to top it off.
It was around 40€/person. Highly recommended.
