For a western tourist walking around at night in a city of 20 million people who are predominantly Muslim sounds like a crazy dream. However, it can be reality, with a little common sense you can stroll through Cairo with confidence in a city that never sleeps. From the middle of the Nile to the island of Gezira are tall buildings and on the other side in the neighborhood of Bulaq. In contrast to the mosques, these buildings are traditional with impeccable lighting and neon signs. The souk of Khan El Khalili is where the activity is with decorated stalls. Its also well worth a stop at one of the crowded terraces to enjoy the famous Egyptian tea.
