A Walk Through Calahorra

Continuing our route through La Rioja, we stopped to visit, have dinner and, of course, drink some wine, in Calahorra. The original urban center is located up on a 358 meters hill. It is a settlement place with remains of the stone age and the bronze age, as well as of the Roman period. It is a place with a lot of history.

I took pictures of the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace (just next to a lovely building of the 16th and 18th century) and I decided to relax a moment on a terrace of the Cathedral Square, that had great views.

My boyfriend arrived and we then entered the old part of town with the buildings and monuments, until we bumped into the Jewish Quarter. The first Jewish settlements dates back to the 11th century. They reached their peak in the 14th century with some 600 inhabitants. A journey through time (a pity my camera battery was empty by then, but now you have an excuse to go and see it). Fantastic.
