Paddling down the River Tiétar

Led by the team at "Action Vera," we enjoyed a fun 6-kilometer trip down the River Tiétar. There are other longer trips that go up to 56 kilometers. It’s definitely a challenging trip but there are some relaxing parts when you can explore the mangroves. Oh, and the whole time you’re enjoying views of the surrounding mountains and the region’s amazing bird life.

Splashing and rapids

My experience on the Tiétar River was...how should I put it..."refreshing." Normally, I suppose it could be a relaxing cruise down the river full of amazing views of the Sierra de Gredos, but we decided to make it an all-or-nothing death-race where splashing and rapids were the order of the day. Is the water cold? You bet, but that didn't stop us from soaking ourselves head to toe! Even during the daring descent down the Gargantón we trusted in the guides from "Action Vera" to whip us into expert canoers. All things considered, I think they did a great job!

Six kilometers down the river

Paddling six kilometers down the Tiétar River is easy. I can say that with confidence because I'm a fairly clumsy canoer and I had no problems (though my mates threw me into the water once we were done!). The ride is pleasant and has just the right amount of rapids to make it interesting. If you like canoeing and have a minimum of experience, then the six-kilometer trip will seem short. Talk to the crew at "Action Vera" or any other local company and they can talk you on longer trips.
