This tremendous and impressive glacier is found in Los Glaciares National Park, near El Calafate in Patagonia. It's a spectacular sight and also incredible moving. The park has boat trips and hikes over the ice. Don't forget to bring your camera as the sensation of having a mass of ice that size staring you in the face is unbelievable, trust me.
It's hard to really add to what's already been said about the Perito Moreno...incredible, unique, surprising, striking, hypnotic, somber....adjectives which fall short in our attempt to describe a place of such jaw-dropping beauty. I'm taking this chance to simply corroborate all that's been said before me by other minube users and, as my testimony, leave these photos for all of you who are still trying to decide on your next trip. Visit Patagonia....whether in Argentina or Chile, it doesn't matter....it's incredible.
This photo was taken on a six hour ice trekking hike on the surface of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina. It was an unbelievable experience, both because of the vastness of the ice and its surreal glacial blue colors. This almost 20 mile long piece of ice reminded me how ever changing the surface of the Earth is. In an age when many of our glaciers are retreating at an exponential rate, it also made me realize the responsibility I have as a traveler to protect and preserve our world. It's a vista, I hope, more people get to see now and in the future.
