Magnificent views

Before you climb, do a quick breathing exercise because you'll need it. Mentally prepare youself because you can expect to climb 224 steps to reach the top of the lighthouse. From here you can enjoy magnificent views of Oléron, Antioch Yellow Tower (1925) and its jetties, and the islands of Aix and Ré, La Rochelle and La Pallice. The Lighthouse Chassiron is surrounded gardens in the shape of a compass. At low tide, around the "end of the world" point, it's possible to distinguish the fragile stone walls of the fishing locks, of which little more than a dozen remain today. They are the direct testimony of the old and effective technique and the last remnants of a past maritime heritage.
