This part of the ancient city of Meknes is surrounded by a wall right in front of the Plaza El Hedim and the Medina. This fortress is home to a group of worthy monuments. The natural entrance used to be the Bab Mansour gate, but you can't actually pass through it, so you have to use the gate that's a few meters ahead towards the new town. The first element you find in this imperial citadel is the Lalla Aouda Square, where the Sultan Moulay Ismail grouped and mustered his Black Guard, the most elite of troops made up of African slaves and their descendants.
