Piazza della Cisterna

4 reviews of Piazza della Cisterna

Lovely square

Excellent

After passing a gate of the thirteenth century, you go up the street of San Giovanni to reach the triangular Piazza della Cisterna, which is surrounded by palaces and towers. Follow the paved road as in the Middle Ages. In the center is an enclosed fountain. The houses are mostly dating back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Where the road meets with the Piazza del Duomo, you can find the towers of the Ardinghelli. They were a powerful Guelph family from the city. Here you will find a famous ice cream shop that you shouldn't pass on.
