Dürnstein

Dürnstein is one of the most charming towns in the Wachau region. A little over an hour by train from Vienna, Durnstein is located along the Danube River and is crowned by the ruins of the medieval castle of the XII century, where the English King, Richard the Lionheart, was imprisoned. From the castle, you can enjoy stunning views of the Danube and all the vineyards in the area. There are two ways to go up, with plenty of signs explaining the history of the medieval castle. The village also has an Abbey, established in the XV century and rebuilt in a Baroque style in the XVIII century. However, you will find great cuisine in Dürnstein as well as an interesting cultural scene.
