El Carmen Church

This church is on the outskirts of the Old Town and it's not easy to reach as it's in front of the train tracks and it's difficult to cross. It's quite a large temple, on the corner between Rua do Carmo and Rua José Espregueira streets, and part of the convent of the Discalced Carmelites. It was built in the early seventeenth century in Mannerist and Baroque styles, has a Latin cross, cloister, chapel and sacristy with several baroque altarpieces (eighteenth century) and walls covered with tiles. It's only open during services, daily at 8 and 9 am, Saturday at 6pm, Sunday at 10, 11.30 and 6pm.
