1 review of Ruby Lighthouse

Nice views

We found this fully-operational modern lighthouse on the opposite side of the bay from the historic broch. Its white color creates a stark contrast with the surrounding lighthouse. Structurally, it consists of two towers, one rectangular and smaller, and the other higher and round. This structure is typical of Scottish coastal locations, on both the east and west coasts of the country. It seems to be a mid-twentieth century lighthouse. Its location is curious, as you might think that the site of the broch would be the most suitable place to build a lighthouse; however, after a quick look at the historical archives in Aberdeen, we learned that there have been numerous problems with boats in this area, so the location of the broch is really not ideal.
