Southerness Lighthouse

Southerness Lighthouse can be found at one end of the village of the same name, in a very rocky corner of Scotland's southwest coast. It is the second oldest lighthouse in the country, and although it's no longer in use, it's in fairly good condition. Some historical documents suggest that there's been a lighthouse here for hundreds of years, but the one that we see today was built in 1748. Historically, Dumfries was one of Scotland's most important ports, and ships had to pass through Southerness to reach Liverpool or Belfast, hence the significance of this lighthouse. It was modernized in 1805,
