San Blas Festival

3 reviews of San Blas Festival

An interesting experience

On February 3 the religious festival of San Blas is celebrated (they say that this saint heals all illnesses of the throat). That day in Pamplona, starting early in the morning, a gourmet market in the Plaza de San Nicolas, which is near the church of the same name, is held.

At this market you'll find people selling buns, donuts, cakes made with txantxigorri and anise, sweets shaped like pacifiers, animals or hammers ,and some candy canes filled with caramel known as "chochos" to the delight of children and the not-so-young. The custom is to go, buy whatever you want, and go to the Church to have your purchase blessed to avoid disease of the throat.
