Neptunbrunnen o Fuente de Neptuno

Excellent

This fountain is opposite the town hall, but during Christmas it is surrounded by an ice rink and a charming market. At the top of the fountain, you can see Neptune, god of the seas according to Roman mythology. It also has four female figures representing the four major rivers of Prussia: Elbe (carrying ears of corn), the Oder, the Vistula (carrying pieces of wood) and the Rhine (carrying grapes).

Built in 1891

The Neptun Brunnen is the Neptune Fountain. It was built in 1891 after a design by Reinhold Begas. It represents the Greek god Poseidon, or Neptune to the Romans, he god of the sea. Around him, there are four women who are allegories for the four major rivers of the country. The Elbe, the Rhine, the Vistula and the Oder. The fountain was originally placed in front of City Hall, on Schlossplatz, but in 1951 it was moved when the palace was being destroyed. They took advantage of this time to renew the fountain and in 1969 it was placed in the gardens behind the Alexanderplatz square, between the old City Hall building and the church of Santa Maria.
