Best Unawatuna beach bar
Hot Rock Restaurant is one of the better beach bars on Unawatuna Beach, the most popular beach in Galle among international tourists. You see, a lot of the restaurants on Unawatuna are kind of depressing…who wants a menu of pizzas and pastas while surrounded by loud Russian tourists on a beautiful Sri Lankan beach? Not me. We ended up choosing Hot Rock because it had a nice open-air deck, a grill, and menu priced somewhere in the middle between local and for-tourists.
The food is simple beach bar fare – think grilled fish, Sri Lankan curries, grilled chicken – as well as a few oddball items like margherita pizza. I got the grilled fish and it came with a generous portion of french fries and a lime wedge. It’s not gourmet quality food by any stretch but it was tasty, cheap, and satisfying and the beer was cold. What else could you ask for?
