Hotel Torre del Clavero

As we wanted to get to know Salamanca (it’s beautiful), not know anything, after a long look on the internet, this hotel was our choice as we wanted to be central with little noise at night.

The truth is that it is two minutes from the Salamanca Plaza Mayor or the core of the capital and when in this city everything is within one kilometre.

It is very clean and cosy, rooms are standard with everything necessary for life in them, if you bring a computer Wi-Fi does not exist, but all rooms have a cable connection (offered to us at reception).

Breakfast was included in the price, the usual: juice, toast, croissants and a few cakes.

This gothic tower belonged to the palace of the nobleman Don Francisco of Sotomayor, of whom there is no vestige and which does not have an exact date of construction, the most likely being in 1480.

It is fairly central, about 100 meters from Gran Vía. At the time of the catholic monarchs it was spared from being demolished for its beauty and also for its convenient location, in one of the original entry points in Salamanca from the river; it is one of the few examples of a late Gothic fortified palace.

Architecturally, it consists of a square base (now somewhat damaged on one side due to the narrowness of the street and the traffic it supports), which as it rises becomes octagonal, with eight cylindrical turrets, which gives the tower a look of a medieval castle and fortress.

We struggled to find the hotel, but it’s conveniently located, near the old town and next to the Salamanca Plaza Mayor.

They have their own parking, which is important since parking in the area is complicated. The service is very pleasant.
