Douglas Family Mausoleum

Excellent

Douglas is a village south of Glasgow, on the way to the border with England in the west. Its name comes from being the seat of the Lord Douglas, a powerful Scottish family, whose name has even spread to the United States (for example the famous actor Kirk Douglas). Initially the village was only a castle that was the family residence and a rural church built in the fourteenth century for them to receive the sacraments and a place for eternal rest. The church once again produced the settlement that led to the current village by those serving families, working the land etc. The church, now under the care of the Scottish government, is in ruins, and there are 2 parts, the oldest (in ruins) and the modern (eighteenth century and still functioning).
