Majestic facade and interior decoration

The Igreja do Carmo (or Church of the Third Order of Carmel) is opposite the Garden of Santa Cristina. It's a magnificent eighteenth century building and has a majestic Baroque facade that consists of 3 sections, the center, flanked by 2 imposing bell towers. The vestry was added in the nineteenth century and the interior has Baroque décor, the 5 altars, pulpits and borders are gilded. The walls are lined with rococo tile panels depicting scenes of country life or the sea, the high altar depicts scenes from a hermit's life.
