3 reviews of Inveraray

a royal town

Inveraray is a beautiful village on the shores of Loch Fyne, an hour or so drive from Glasgow. The landscape on the way is very nice. It was a "royal town", it had special rights like the direction of other towns, to have a university. It was founded by the Earl of Argyll who built a castle there in 1745. There was also a Jail for the entire region. Most of the city was designed by architect Mylne in Edinburgh. It is a harmonious village with small white houses. You can find several places to eat but they are quite expensive, a maritime museum is installed on an old boat, and the prison is now a museum.
