NATO base and dreamy beaches

Good

Tavolara is a rocky island in the Tyrrhenian Sea a few kilometers off the coast of Sardinia. You can catch ferries to Tavolara from various ports along the Costa Smeralda: Golfo Arancia, Olbia, and Porto San Paolo. The island has housed a NATO military base since 1962 and the majority of the island is off limits to tourists. The main place to visit is a rocky promontory about 1km. long toward the south of the island where there are some homes, a cemetery, restaurants, and some truly amazing beaches perfect for diving.

Beautiful and unspoiled

Tavolara is a small island in Sardinia not far from Olbia. It’s a beautiful, unspoiled island that you can reach by ferry in only a few minutes. The island is about 6 km long and 1 km wide, and reaches a maximum altitude of 565 meters. It makes for a very interesting visit if you’re holidaying in Sardinia. There are no shops or bars here, just beautiful panoramas and lots of plants and sea life.

Like paradise on Earth

I visited Tavolara for the first time this year and I’d recommend everyone visit at least once in their lifetime. It’s like paradise on earth. You can only get there by ferry and it feels like an island within an island, a world within a world.
