Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre

1 review of Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre

A lovely puppet theater

The Swedish Cottage is home to what is, unfortunately, one of the last puppet companies in the United States. Performances have taken place here since 1947, but the history of the building takes back to the Philadelphia Expo of 1876, a model Swedish school. Popular with the Scandinavian community, it was finally moved to Central Park by popular demand. It had various purposes, including a children's study center and an insect research laboratory. For several years now, it has specialized in the performance of children's classics like Cinderella and Peter Pan, and can seat about 100 people. It is also famous among New Yorkers for its magical birthday parties.
