2 reviews of La Ciotat Market

A relaxing time

The old port is the tourist and economic centre of La Ciotat. In summer, you can find a lively night market every evening here from 9pm. And every Sunday morning, in summer and winter, there's a large municipal market at the water's edge. It's a real pleasure to enjoy the market, where you can find everything from hats, beachwear, swimwear, breads and pastries, meats and cheeses, fruits and vegetables, clothing ... A nice relaxing time away from traffic noise and pollution, in a quite idyllic location.

We really loved the night markets and...

We really loved the night markets and went back several times during our stay. Unfortunately we had a run in with some of the less scrupulous locals. After buying a bikini at the market, it broke after wearing it for 5 minutes. We went back the next night to have it replaced and ended up being abused, yelled at, told to "shut up and leave" called stupid and told that we were being unreasonable. It was a really disappointing end to fabulous stay. The markets are great, just avoid the bikini stall at the main entrance unless you enjoy being abused, insulted and ripped off.
