Historical Monument of Spanish heritage

The best preserved section (if not practically the only one) of the walled enclosure of Seville is located near the neighbourhood and the Basilica of the Macarena, on calle San Luis, between calle Becquer and calle Castelar.

The walls were built with limestone, sand and pebbles by the Almohads in the twelfth century. They were surrounded by a moat and were six kilometres in length, along which 166 towers, 12 gates and 3 shutters.

They were preserved perfectly until the nineteenth century, when it was decided to demolish them so that the city could expand. Currently, seven squares towers are preserved and one octagonal, as well as the popular Torre del Oro (Golden Tower), the Abd El Aziz, and another section in the Valley Gardens in the Alcázar area.
