    cheapest place in the city

    The Lake Inn Guest House is in the town of Polonnaruwa, not far from where the buses coming from Habanara and Anuradhapura drop you off. The place is a little sloppy, but it's the cheapest place in the city to stay. When we went, it was 500 Rs per night for a double room, simple, small and breakfast wasn't included. But it had a fan and considering the heat, this is basically all you need in this city. The hotel is 500 meters from the lake and close to a tank where people bathe, so there are a good amount of mosquitoes at night. The hotel rents bikes for 200RS to go exploring the ruins. In August
