5 reviews of Convent of Las Descalzas Reales

Closed order

Excellent

Quite tired on our route through square, corners and old monuments of this old land so welcoming with visitors.

We are very close to Puerta del Sol, a Madrid square where many great tragedies took place, like the war against Napoleon and great joys like the proclamation of the Second Republic in the year 1931.

The Plaza de las Descalzas has an emblematic monument: the so-called Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales. It was founded in 1559 by Juana de Austria, sister of King Felipe II and mother of the future king of Portugal Don Salvador.

It hosts the convent, a closed order of nuns, and the building is worth visiting: inside there is a large garden, a church and the rooms.
