Aveiro Light

The lighthouse of Barra de Aveiro owes its existence to numerous accidents on the coast in the area of the gorge of Vouga. The first project dates back to the year 1856, but it wasn´t until the year 1879 that the final draft was approved by engineer Benjamim Paulo Cabral. It became operational in the year1893, with a tower of 62 meters, the highest in Portugal, and the highest one in all of Europe.
