Marino Tonino Restaurant

This restaurant just outside Santander looks like your everyday neighborhood bar in a seaside town. Where we begin to see the differences with a normal restaurant is in its Hall of Fame where you can see pictures of some of Spain's most well-known celebrities like Buenafuente or Revilla.

When the plates arrived, we discovered why this place is so famous. All the ingredients are fresh and top-quality and the dishes are simple yet tasty. I got a seafood menu of things like anchovies, calamari, razor clams, and snapper with potatoes. Normally, razor clams are my least favorite kind of seafood, but trying these made me reconsider my tastes.

I had lunch at this popular restaurant during my last trip to Santander. It's a popular place among celebrities and socialites, including the Cantabrian president Revilla.

It’s located in a neighborhood a bit off the historic old town and is spacious and decorated in maritime style. It has several rooms and a large outdoor terrace. The specialties are fish and shellfish from the Cantabrian Sea and I can say that the products I tried were among the freshest I've ever had.

I tried Cantabrian anchovies, grilled razor clams, calamari, and a really succulent snapper grilled with garlic, all very delicious.

There were two of us, we ordered clams marinara, which were exquisite. Then we continued with cantabra cod, what a strong flavor, she ordered steak, also very good. The three-chocolate cake and yoghurt mousse was the grand finale. Worth going again.
