Monument to Our Lady of la Salette

This monument is in 1 of the small streets that links the boardwalk with Front Street, at the doors of the Church of St. Martin of Tours. It mimiks the appearance of the Virgin to 2 shepherd kids, Melanie and Maximin La Salette in the year 1846. According to legend, the Virgin was crying because mankind was committing 2 sins: Profanity and working on Sundays. The Virgin predicted it would continue this way, on earth there would be a horrible famine and all the crops would spoil, 2 children asked to spread the message. As expected, people did not believe them, so the Virgin gave rise to a fountain at the site of the apparition.
