1 review of Old Bridge (Stirling)

Oldest bridge in the city

Excellent

Officially, there is only one Old Bridge in Stirling, the famous bridge where Sir William Wallace beat the English in 1297. However, existing historical records show several factors that override such statements. First, the bridge that is called Old Bridge, has another name, Stirling Bridge and secondly there is another bridge that bears that name, that's located in the outskirts of the city on the A84 road, in direction of Loch Lomond.

We must keep in mind that the bridge where Wallace won the battle no longer exists and that the bridge we see today was constructed (and reconstructed) in the 18th century. It has nothing to do with the original, that was made of wood, that existed in the 13th century. What makes the real Old Bridge true is that it was built about a hundred years before Stirling Bridge.
