The Oa Nature Reserve

1 review of The Oa Nature Reserve

A bird watching paradise

The Oa is a kind of peninsula between Port Ellen and the airport, quite difficult to access (you're recommended to go in a 4x4 vehicle). You'll find a rural parking lot, where you can walk to the cliffs and specialty bird watching areas. Unless you're an avid birdwatcher, the highlights are the cliffs. They are nice, but to be honest, not as impressive as others you could see in islands around the north of Scotland or Northern Ireland. There are several walking routes around the area, with an average distance of about 4 kilometers, but be warned that none are suitable for small children.

The space is protected by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds), an organization that operates across the UK.
