Pescador Lighthouse

4 reviews of Pescador Lighthouse

historical site

The Fisherman's Lighthouse location coincides with the site of an ancient watchtower in which fires were lit, and replaced the lighthouse that was built in 1859 at Friar's Point at the entrance to the estuary of Santoña, because the coast was not well-marked. It opened in 1864 as a beacon of the 4th order with an olive oil lamp. The lamp possessed an optical device with a rotating lens with a white light feature that flashed the same color, thus giving the device a range of 17 miles. The slack lamp was installed in 1883 and operated until 1926, when it entered service. There is an acetylene lamp equipped with new optics that give off 3 white flashes every 15 seconds.
