1 review of Puerto de Lower Largo

A former fishing village

This now run down area is where you'll find the only hotel in town (Hotel Robinson Crusoe, of course). It was the site of a Pictish fishing settlement, taking advantage of the point where the stream meets the sea. It was an important location for a long time, but with the decline of the fishing industry, the port has suffered.

Interestingly, access to the port depends entirely on the tide: at low tide, it's impossible, which could have been a good way to defend the town against the storms that are common in the area or against potential attacks.
