1 review of Queensway Tunnel

Used in movie scenes

Connecting the cities of Liverpool and Birkenhead, passing under the River Mersey, the Queensway Tunnel took nine years to be completed, before finally being opened in 1934. At the time, it was the longest tunnel to be built under water. When we drive through the tunnel it appears semi-circular, but in fact it is completely circular: under the floor are passages and shelters that have been built in place of the old gas lines. Scenes from Harry Potter were filmed here, and you can't miss the huge ventilation towers at the Liverpool end of the tunnel.
