Salton Sea State Recreation Area

Salton Sea State Recreation Area

1 review of Salton Sea State Recreation Area

Unique, interesting body of water in California

If you happen to be out in the desert, say, on the way to Salvation Mountain or perhaps near Joshua Tree National Park, a quick stop by the Salton Sea may be well worth a detour. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is definitely fascinating to see the largest inland body of water in California. The history behind the Sea and where it’s headed are equally intriguing as seeing the area. So much water has evaporated from the Sea, and close to the shore, there are tons of fish skeletons lying out in the open. As a result, the smell is quite strong, so if you come by for a visit, keep that in mind in case the stench of fish doesn’t work well for you.
