10 reviews of Convento de San Esteban

A must-see

The convent of San Esteban is one of the must see' in Salamanca. Its magnificent façade and beautiful interior mean that few visitors pass through Salamanca without visiting it, and few Salamancans do not return again and again to admire its facade and interior.

Founded in the thirteenth century

The San Esteban (Saint Stephen) convent was founded in the thirteenth century, but it is not the building we see today, which was built in the sixteenth century. It’s at the end of the Gran Via and you get there on foot from the cathedral in about five minutes, you can also get a bus that goes along the Gran Via.

It's a Dominican convent; the order arrived in Salamanca in the thirteenth century. The façade of the church and next door are the cloister arches of the convent. The facade is beautiful, arched with a small bell tower that dominates.

There are several cloisters which cannot now be visited due to restoration. The kings’ cloister, which is square, is seventeenth century.
