San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is amazing! With work by many of the greats like Warhol, Matisse and Pollock, as well as design, architectural models and beautiful photography, it has something to please anyone with even a passing interest in the 20th century art scene. Founded in 1935, it was the first modern art museum on the West Coast, and is located in the beautiful Yerba Buena Gardens, which are very pleasant to explore on foot.

The Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco contains works by 20th century contemporary artists. It moved to its current building in the South of Market neighborhood in 1995, and now attracts more than 600,000 visitors a year. The Legion of Honor Museum in Lincoln Park encompasses primarily European antiquities and works of art. It is administered by the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, which also operates the Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park.
