The sunset is Canada

The sun sets late this far north, and when it sets here it sets over Canada. Actually, Canada is just one of many things we can see from here – there’s the Olympic Mountains, the Haro Strait, and a drop dead gorgeous swath of coastal cliff. San Juan County Park occupies the west end of San Juan Island; there’s a campground, gravel beach, and a cluster of picnic tables at the cliff side with an edge-of-the-world feeling. The park is just a few miles from the ferry landing in Friday Harbor – we rode our fully loaded bikes there in not much more than an hour – but the park feels decidedly remote from the hustle of town.
