Sierra in Danger

Great

The beautiful mountains of Monchique in Algarve, southern Portugal, are part of a beautiful natural area that many people might not know is in serious danger. Currently there is a project underway to open a mine in this natural enclave, and it's run by a company called Fermica Portugesa. This place that's full of idyllic cottages such as the Jaede House, may cease to exist how it is now and become another wasteland due to this project being approved if someone doesn't keep a close eye on it. The air pollution with the dust from a project like this from the mining, water, sound and all kinds would end one of the few untapped natural enclaves south of Portugal and its flora and fauna as eagle and the Iberian lynx.

Great views

Excellent

A bit dry when we went as no rain since June, but still fairly green. I suggest finding some of the local springs around monchique, there is also an amazing restaurant near the the top of monchique town (the best food I've ever tried).
