Almada Square

Almada Square (Praça do Almada) is considered the true "visiting room" of Póvoa, being the main square and the largest. It gets its name from Corregidor Francisco de Almada e Mendonça, promoter of the great urban renewal in the eighteenth century. It's a noble area with the main symbols of the autonomy of the council: The Town Hall (dos Pacos do Concelho) and the Pillory (Pelourinho).
