Important centre of Christianity

It has been an episcopal residence since the Middle Ages. The church of Lyon is the first built in Western Europe after Rome for the first believes in Christianity. Lyon was an important center of Christianity in France. In the Middle Ages, the palace Saint Jean became the residence of the monks of the nearby cathedral in a renovation. In 1750, Chenavard modernized the palace, followed by the brothers Desjardin later on in that century. At the top of district library, are the municipal archives and the Academy of Lyon, a major literary circle. The palace no longer houses religious people. The beautiful reception rooms, decorated by Toussaint Loyer in 1761, are open to the public when they exhibit.
