Ayamonte Market

Fresh Products

The Ayamonte Food Market is at the end of Paseo de la Ribera, near the theatre and the port. It has a fairly ugly, yellowish smooth facade. Housed inside is the market, where you can buy fresh local products (meat, fish, fruit, vegetables). Prices are much cheaper here than in any supermarket. Although only open in the mornings, it's very common for the "churro" shops to open in the afternoon, as it's very typical to buy small bags of potato chips as a snack in the afternoon.

Having had nothing but excellent...

Great

Having had nothing but excellent produce from this market normally, I can unfortunately say that there is a stall in the very corner of the market ran by two women who completely screwed me over yesterday. I am a chef and know my fresh produce very well, and know the correct storage procedures for fresh fish/shellfish. You can understand my disappointment and anger when the next day to my surprise when opening my two king scallops one of them was completely rancid and the other was filled with nothing but sand. Upon purchase, both of the shells were firmly shut and appeared to be fresh as you can get.
