Legend

According to legend, a Galician peasant, who left Barcelos for Santiago de Compostela, was accused of stealing from a landowner and sentenced to be hanged. Before being taken to the gallows, his last wish was to be taken again before the Judge. Once before the judge who was eating a roast rooster (chicken), he expressed his innocence and said that as proof, that rooster would get up and crow. The judge haughtily pushed the plate away and wanted to continue the execution. A few minutes later, and at the precise moment when the condemned was being hanged, the rooster got up and started crowing. The judge, realizing his mistake, ran to the gallows and found that due to a poorly made knot, the prisoner had escaped.
