To Feel the Wind

You see it from afar and it doesn’t seem to say anything. But once you are closer, you can suddenly feel the wind, water, rocks and iron united in a symbiotic combination. Allow the wind to mess up your hair and spend some time seated in this almost magical place.

You have to get there walking, San Sebastián is the ideal city to walk and enjoy its contrasts: colors, beaches, buildings, food and landscapes.

Reflection

It is my favorite corner in San Sebastián! This sculpture by Eduardo Chillida –Peine del Viento XV, mistakenly known as Peine de los Vientos– is one of the most famous sculptures of this Basque sculptor. It is located on a side of La Concha Bay in San Sebastián. The group of three sculptures inserted on the rocks, in front of the sea, concludes the walk that goes around the bay, giving a destination to the promenade, besides being an exceptional public space.

Few people know that the square from where you see the three sculptures is not made by Chillida, it is actually the work of his architect friend, Luis Peña Ganchegui. They worked hand in hand to simultaneously build the sculpture and place from where to admire it. The project –Plaza del Tenis, constructed in cobblestone– adapts to the geography of the existing rocks, constructing some stepped platforms in the transitions, with a strong geometry that doesn’t expect to blend with the place.

Spectacular Seawall

Beautiful San Sebastián is made for walking. You walk and discover so many incredible corners that you don’t realize that you’ve walked for kilometers.

As you move away from the city along the Concha Bay, against the slope of Igueldo, the beach of Ondarreta ends. It’s here, under a spectacular seawall that is constantly thrust by the sea were “the wind combs itself”. This is how the brilliant artist Eduardo Chillida imagined it in 1976 when he baptized one of his most important and famous pieces: El Peine del Viento (The Comb of the Sea).

It is a wonder in a magical place, a symbol

Unique Place

Excellent

It is marvelous, spectacular, and incomparable. There are no adjectives to describe this beautiful place. It offers wonderful views of the beautiful pearl of the Bay of Biscay (San Sebastián).

It is a special place to reconnect with oneself, to find peace, think, and relax while listening to the sea whisper between the irons of the most famous sculpture of Eduardo Chillida.

It is an image that every traveler has to have. It is a unique place.

A Mix Between Nature and Art

Donostia plus sun equals to the most splendid views, like the ones you see here.

Donostia is a city that must be visited once you are in Gipuzkoa. The sculpture Peine de los Vientos is a peculiar mix between nature and art, where one cannot be separated from the other.

Very Photogenic Place

It is a spectacular place that can be visited any day, but it is especially impressive with a storm or in the summer, with clear days on sunrise and sunset.

It is a very photogenic place where you can spend hours contemplating the sea.
