Besides a large hotel, there is an airy plaza where you have a beautiful view of the castle and the North Bridge, and this is where you'll find the tourist office. You can get a map of the city to help you find your way around, and see where the boundaries lie between the two parts of the city, which are known as Old Town and New Town. Old Town is, logically enough, the place where you'll find the medieval castle, the Royal Mile and the cathedral, all the oldest buildings in Edinburgh that go back many centuries, but New Town isn't particularly young, either.

It is rather the second extension of the city, and is also protected by and recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.
