Memory of Tyrol in Brazil
Treze Tilias, is a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, in the State of Parana. It is a city that began as a settlement of Austrian immigrants, they found this area which is similar to their beloved Tyrol. Some 80 families came first and then immigration increased and they populated this "memory of Tirol" in Brazil. Treze Tilias is about 400 miles away from the state capital which is Florianópolis. The economy here is based on agriculture, the timber industry and tourism. There the people speak Portuguese, but they speak the dialect from Lower Austria and Germany.
